| Three Winchester area attorneys and one law firm were honored for their pro bono publico work at the Winchester-Frederick County Bar Association's annual meeting. James. R. Larrick, Jr., Esq., and Marilyn A. Solomon, Esq. were presented awards in honor of their outstanding pro bono contributions to the area's poor through Blue Ridge Legal Services, Inc.'s (BRLS) Pro Bono Referral Program. Also honored was the law firm of Buchbauer & McGuire, P.C. Every attorney in the firm, Peter W. Buchbauer, Esq., James J. McGuire, Esq., Lawrence P. Vance, Esq. and Kelly C. Ashby, Esq., participate in the program. Anna L. K. Hammond, Esq., Managing Attorney of the Winchester Office of BRLS, and Staff Attorney Jennifer L. Locke made the presentations and described the special contributions of each attorney. BRLS works closely with the Winchester-Frederick County Bar Association to encourage attorneys to accept cases for low income clients without charge. An award was also presented to Thomas A Louthan, Esq., Past President of the Bar, for his help in the recent Pro Bono Recruitment Drive.
Through the Pro Bono Referral Program, low income clients with civil legal problems are screened by BRLS and referred to members of the bar who donate legal assistance without charge. BRLS is the nonprofit legal aid society which provides free legal assistance in many types of civil matters of critical importance to low-income residents of the Shenandoah Valley and Roanoke Valley of Virginia. BRLS is a United Way member agency.
